The new hockey season is fast approaching and Phoenix (a merger of Braintree and Dumow) hosts its annual club day this coming Saturday, 7th September.
As well as members, the club would like to invite anyone who is perhaps new to the area and considering a return to the sport, or those people who want to trying something new, to come along.
The club runs several competitive teams in the East Leagues for men, women, youth and mixed sides, and caters for all levels from beginner to experienced players.
This year, one of the days attractions along with games and skill sessions, will be the unveiling of a new format of the game: Rush Hockey. This is an England Hockey initiative which is fast developing across the region, and with its own astro pitch and facilities, Phoenix Chairman Chris Card is keen for the club to be one of the new delivery partners. The games involve four or five a side teams, with smaller pitches, and for all budding strikers, an open policy on shooting from anywhere on the pitch. The focus is on a fast, furious, but above all fun way to exercise and to introduce people to the game.
The day starts at 10.30am and is at the PHC astro, Four Releet, Braintree.
