A rainy Sunday morning greeted the Under 10 Boys in their first games of the season at Chelmsford. Five games were scheduled, but Blue Herts did not provide a side so only four games were completed.
The match-day squad had 3 members of the team that reached last seasons regional finals and 5 new players. Understandably the boys will take some time to become familiar with each other. There were some excellent passages of play and as the season progresses I am sure that the team will be even better.
Blue Hornets 1 - 0 Chelmsford
(Zach Johnson)
Blue Hornets started very well and quickly established a one goal lead through last years player of the season (Zach Johnson). Chelmsford started to improve as the game progressed and spent the closing minutes of the game camped out in the Blue Hornets half, but some great defending by Aaron Hughes and Alex Mulley managed to ensure that Chelmsford didn't score and closed out the victory for Blue Hornets.
Blue Hornets 1 - 3 Hertford
(James Malthouse)
Hertford played extremely well, the game was played in a great spirit and the Hertford boys scored three goals which they really deserved. James Malthouse scored a consolation goal. Again there were passages of really fantastic play, but the Hertford team were just that little bit better on the day.
Blue Hornets V Blue Herts
No opposition
Blue Hornets 3 - 0 Old Loughts
(Charlie Knight, James Malthouse, James Malthouse)
Old Loughts were our nemesis last season! We managed to draw with them only once and they went to to win the regional finals. Many of their players from last season have now moved up to the Under 12 age group so it was very much a "new look" side that we faced. Charlie Knight opened the scoring when he found himself in the D with a loads of time to pick his spot and score. James Malthouse followed up with 2 well taken goals as Blue Hornets cruised to victory.
Blue Hornets 0 - 2 Saffron Walden
The final game saw Blue Hornets up against Saffron Walden. It really was a closer affair that the scoreline indicated. Zach Johnson created several excellent chances and James Bottrill looked certain to score after playing some great hockey but just didn't quite do enough to get the goal.
