BHC U14 Boys Shine at England Hockey East Finals

Congratulations to our U14 Boys who tied for first place at the England Hockey East Finals!

On the chilly morning of March 3rd, 2024, Braintree Hockey Club's U14 boys showcased their talent at the England Hockey East Finals, hosted by Bedford Hockey Club. Despite initial concerns due to frost, the tournament proceeded with Braintree's team exhibiting exceptional skill and teamwork.

Competing against five other formidable teams, including Cambridge City, Norwich City Dragons, Leyton Buzzard, Bedford, and Waltham Forest, Braintree's U14 boys stood out with their remarkable performance.

In their first match against Leyton Buzzard, Braintree secured a 1-0 victory with Alex Mulley's goal from a short corner, demonstrating relentless pressure and dominance in the opponent's half.

Continuing their winning streak, Braintree triumphed 2-0 against Cambridge City, with goals from Caelan and James. The team displayed outstanding teamwork and created numerous scoring opportunities throughout the game.

Facing Waltham Forest in their third match, Braintree secured another 2-0 victory, with Espen and Zac finding the back of the net. Despite facing skilled opposition, Braintree's cohesive teamwork prevailed.

In a hard-fought battle against Bedford, Braintree displayed resilience, securing a 1-1 draw. Zac's goal from a short corner followed by Espen's decisive strike showcased the team's determination and skill.

In their final match against Norwich, Braintree demonstrated commendable performance, dominating possession but settling for a 0-0 draw. Despite the tie, Braintree's impressive display throughout the tournament earned them 11 points, tying for first place with Norwich.

The Braintree Hockey Club's U14 boys exhibited remarkable talent and teamwork throughout the tournament. Jack Barker and Benji Finbow's composed goalkeeping, along with the solid defensive efforts of Austin Hill, Oscar Lawrence, and Archie Matthews, laid the foundation for the team's success. Midfielders Zac Johnson, James Malthouse, Freddie Matthews, Harley Pelosi, and Espen Fergusson displayed exceptional skill and determination, while forwards Alex Mulley, Caelan Robertson, George Wild, and Thomas Clifford-Smith showcased their attacking prowess.

Every player, both seasoned and debutants, played an integral role in Braintree Hockey Club's outstanding performance at the England Hockey East Finals, leaving a lasting impression with their dedication and passion for the game.
