Braintree Hosted the first walking hockey tournament in Essex on Sunday 13th October.

After over two years of Walking Hockey at Braintree opposition was found to play a match, well in the end 7 teams from 4 clubs playing 21 matches.

On a day that threatened poor weather it ended up being dry the teams from Bedford, Maldon, Spalding joined the two teams from our club with all teams playing 6 matches of Walking Hockey in 15 minute slots culminating with Maldon lifting the trophy by 1 point from Bedford Panthers. Our teams finished Bric-Brac 4th and Young Ones 5th although Young Ones won the dual of the braintree teams in their match 2-1.

A big thank you goes to our 4 umpires who were on the pitch for over 2 hours, Sandra Mullane, Teresa Fitten, James Card and Chairman Frazer Croft and also to Marc Chatters who was brilliant as central, time keeper, score collator and ball boy, he helped a lot of weary players by returning the balls.

Just one of the comments received from opposition showed the enjoyment of all as it is much the same across all those that were there:

"Thank you, from the Bedford gang, for organising such a fantastic tournament. We all thoroughly enjoyed the competition and the hospitality."

Walking Hockey Sessions continue on a Monday evening. from 21st October.
