A beautiful sunny afternoon at Four Releet on Sunday saw the Knights overcome Bill Wickham's Sudbury.
An evenly matched game throughout saw the Knights use 15 players in the second of a summer series of games. The summer series is for equivalent 4XI standard sides to play some competitive hockey, on a full pitch, in preparation for the 2021/22 season.
The Knights have used 46 players in all 13 games played, winning 7, drawing 1 and losing 5.
Damian Murray scored from a short early on as Knights pressed early on. Jordan Rogers, the returning Stuart Nelson and Sam Ball working hard in midfield. With the number of players needing pitch time the Knights adopted an unusual 4-4-2 formation but that provided useful numbers in the middle.
The game was very evenly balanced going into the second half with Sudbury edging the overall possession. Waspe scored on the break to make it 2-0 and then Fielding slotted home an inch perfect cross from Oliver Murray to make it 3-0.
The scoreline flattered Knights slightly and sure enough Bill Wickham kept fighting and in the closing minutes cam back strongly with 2 late goals. Jim Oliver, who had made a series of outstanding saves throughout the game, was finally beaten. A nervous final couple of minutes was overcome and the Knights held on for a welcome victory.
A glass or two of beer was consumed outside in the sunshine after the game and the Knights would like to thank Bill Wickham and his team for a great game.
Next up for the Knights, is May 30th, Home vs Essex Farmers. A few familiar faces will be in the opposition!
